The church in the village Phini is dedicated to the Holy Cross. It is the central church for the residents of the community Phini. It was built between the 18th and 19th century. It is found at the center of the village and it is placed at a lower level from the main street of the village, where in order to reach the yard around the church, you will have to go down some steps. It is built with stones but externally it is plastered and painted white like internally. Its tall belfry is an extension of the temple. Recently a renovation was done to the roof of the church, with expenses of the community of Phini.
The internal wealth of the church of Ho nest Cross, is the handmade engraved iconostasis that it allocates from the 19th century. It is one of the three more beautiful in Cyprus and also unique in its type. The tastefulness now in the ecclesiastical space, is the presence and the enrichment that is still given to the iconstasis with the placement of Byzantine icons. Between these pictures, in the same line, it is found also the icon of Ho nest Cross.
However it exists something special. At the very old years the genuineness of Ho nest Cross, was protected with the introduction of special "kannavitsa" and above it a layer from special metal of silver color. Up to today, the Holy Cross is stored and placed in this way in a special sealed sheath having size of 1m by 60 cm. and it is found placed in the iconostasis of the church. The old psalteries were destroyed and during the last 15 years new ones were manufactured that are simple and of modern type.
The yard around the church is comfortable and big enough to accept the faithful people on the day of feast for Ho nest Cross and take part at the litany.
It is celebrated on 14 th of September and on 1 st of August.
